Zoom Phone Launched in India; The service begins with Maharashtra

Zoom, the video conferencing and cloud collaboration solutions provider, has launched its cloud-based service Zoom Phone in India. Zoom Phone integrates with the current Zoom platform to provide a unified business communications solution that can handle both inbound and outbound calls over the public switched telephone network.

The service will begin in Pune, which falls under the Maharashtra telecom circle. According to Zoom, it will soon expand to cities like Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai and Delhi, with the aim of supporting both local and multinational companies.

The service includes India-based phone numbers and cloud-based PBX features. These features include intelligent call routing, auto attendants, interactive voice response, shared line appearance, call queuing, call analytics, AI tools such as voicemail management and post-call summaries, recordings and transcriptions, and a desktop/mobile app experience optimized for business users Integrations with CRM applications, according to Zoom.

After receiving the Unified License with Access Licenses for All/PAN India and Long Distance from the Ministry of Telecommunications, Government of India in April 2023, Zoom India submitted the required on-premises infrastructure as per the Telecom Regulations.

According to the company, Zoom Phone will support multinational companies and companies in India in consolidation efforts as these organizations can now have a single communications platform for their global workforce.

Zoom works with international telecommunications providers and offers phone numbers and calling plans in 47 countries and territories, bundled together with its Unified Communications-as-a-Service platform.

As businesses demand more integrated communication platforms, Zoom aims to provide businesses with a unified communication experience by providing a scalable solution, especially given the growing hybrid work environment in India.

“Indian multinationals are feeling the need to produce more with less and are increasingly turning to collaboration platforms, including video communications, to streamline workflows and engage employees, partners and their customers. The launch of Zoom Phone will give the collaboration solutions provider a competitive advantage in targeting Indian enterprise customers,” said Nikhil Batra, research director for telecom at IDC.
