YouTube provides insights into the potential of Gen AI for creators

YouTube provides insights into the potential of Gen AI for creators

Like most social platforms, YouTube is betting heavily on AI and trying to incorporate more generative AI features to ensure its creators can get the most out of it.

But I'm not sure yet if any social platform has developed a killer use case for AI.

I mean, certainly the current image creation and chatbot tools are interesting, if mostly as a novelty, while more extreme uses of AI (like a social platform populated exclusively by AI bots) seem to distance themselves from the “social” element of the medium .

And aside from these uses, I'm not sure there's a great AI use case, at least not on the consumer side of social apps.

But that could change.

According to a new report from YouTube, more creators are incorporating AI into their process 92% of developers already use Gen AI tools.

And yet:

“Still, 90% of YouTubers don’t feel like they’re using Gen AI to the fullest extent possible. This means that while developers are using genetic AI tools, many may not fully understand their capabilities or have the resources to maximize their effectiveness.”

This is the gap that YouTube is now trying to close by providing more insight into how generative AI tools can help creators maximize their output and explore entirely new possibilities through systematic improvements.

However, YouTube fortunately didn't dwell too much on the “groundbreaking” aspect in this overview.

YouTube's 17-page report, “The Future of Tech and Creativity,” looks at the various ways Gen AI tools can now practically help creators, including:

  • Streamline labor-intensive tasks like editing text, images, audio or video.
  • Develop new ideas and concepts by using AI as a sounding board
  • Improving content quality by refining visuals, optimizing sound, suggesting improvements, etc.

This is a logical and realistic overview of the benefits of genetic AI, because even though there is a lot of hype and focus on AI tools, most of them do not provide any significant benefit.

At least not yet.

The simplification of various tasks through AI will streamline many more processes in the future. In particular, I imagine that generative AI will enable more developers to build for AR and VR environments as it no longer requires deep programming skills, and as these technologies become more common, this could be extremely helpful valuable.

YouTube has also provided a more logical and informed view of the technology's future potential.

As you can see in this overview, most developers believe that AI tools will become valuable tools while also helping audio translations reach a wider audience and develop more professional graphics and effects.

It's a good, in-depth overview from YouTube that doesn't overstate the “magic” of generative AI and points to actual, real-world use cases currently available and facilitated by AI tools.

And while these will be disappointing to some, since we believe in the transformative nature of these tools, this is an actual, logical explanation of how AI tools can maximize your efforts, and that's important to note.
