Woodlawn High's principal will be reassigned

BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) – Michael Hilton, the principal of Woodlawn High School in Baton Rouge, will be reassigned, the East Baton Rouge Parish School System said.

The district did not provide a reason for the sudden change and has not yet said where Hilton will land within the school system.

Hilton became Woodlawn's principal in 2023 after leaving the Ascension Parish School System. During his time as principal of Lowery Middle School in Ascension Parish, he was named Louisiana Middle School Principal of the Year.

The EBR school system sent a letter to parents last Friday saying that Dr. John Jenkins, assistant principal at Woodlawn High School, “will assume the role of interim principal of Woodlawn High School.”

“Please join us in congratulating Dr. John Jenkins and thank Michael Hilton for his service and leadership,” the letter said.

Hilton posted a farewell message on social media, saying his time at Woodlawn “was one of the greatest honors of my professional career.”

“I know this is an unexpected change, but I have no doubt that Woodlawn will continue to thrive,” Hilton said.

The EBR school system announces that it will hold a parent meeting to meet with the interim principal and answer questions on Tuesday, October 1, at 6 p.m. in the school theater at Woodlawn High School.
