Will Reichard injury update: NBC broadcast brings concerning news on Vikings kicker

It was a tough night for the Minnesota Vikings kicker Will Reichard. He missed two of his field goal attempts, with one of them hitting the post. After his final kickoff in the Vikings-Colts game on Sunday Night Football, the broadcast showed him limping slightly after the kick. The NBC broadcast updated his status, noting that he is dealing with a right thigh injury.

Reichard put a heating pad on it and went in and out of the medical tent on Sunday evening. He also limped significantly on the field. The Vikings currently lead the Colts 21-10 in the fourth quarter.

Long before Sunday Night Football, he hadn't missed a single shot all season. But Reichard was clearly in pain several times during the game.

Coming into the game with the Colts, Reichard made 14 of his 14 field goal attempts and hit 20 of his 20 extra points during the 2024 season.

The Vikings selected him in the fifth round of the NFL Draft in April. He's the only kicker on the roster now, so he's earned his spot. Greg Joseph had been the Vikings' kicker for the past three seasons. But he signed with the Packers in the offseason.

During the offseason, Reichard told reporters that he wasn't thinking about anything other than kicking.

“I just try to do my best and try to find the best version of myself every day that I come out here and try to get one percent better every day,” the Vikings rookie said. Wherever this takes me, it takes me somehow. I’m just trying to find a way to be the best version of myself.”
