Matt Boldy scored 2:14 into overtime to give the Minnesota Wild a 2-1 victory over the Toronto Maple Leafs on Sunday night in Saint Paul, Minnesota.

Ryan Hartman also scored for Minnesota, which won for the eighth time in 11 games to start the season. Jared Spurgeon recorded two assists.

William Nylander scored the only goal for Toronto, which lost its second game in as many nights. Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner each had an assist.

Wild goalkeeper Filip Gustavsson stopped 27 of 28 shots to secure the win. He made 11 saves in the first period, 11 saves in the second period and five saves in the third period.

Maple Leafs goaltender Anthony Stolarz stopped 31 of 33 shots. He fell to 4-2-2.

Spurgeon delivered the decisive play before the game-winning goal. He tracked down a loose puck in the Wild's defensive zone and shot it across the middle of the ice toward the attacking zone.

In the end, Boldy had the puck on his stick and used the ball to break away from Stolarz. Boldy faked his backhand and switched to his forehand before sinking a shot for his sixth goal of the season.

Teammates mobbed Boldy, who scored his 17th game-winning goal in four NHL seasons.

Minnesota opened the scoring with 9:41 left in the first period.

Frederick Gaudreau attempted a backhand shot but it didn't make it through traffic. But Gaudreau's shot resulted in a loose puck in front of the net, and Hartman spotted it and fired it into the net for his third goal of the season.

Toronto got away with a 1-1 tie on the power play with 52 seconds left in the first period.

Matthews worked the puck in the right circle and looked for an open teammate. He passed a pass to Nylander, who fired a one-timer past Gustavsson from the left circle.

It was Nylander's team-leading ninth goal of the season.

Toronto took a 1-2 lead due to man superiority. Minnesota went 0-3.
