Where all the Outer Banks Pogues were left behind at the end of Season 4, Volume 1

Warning! SPOILERS ahead Outer Banks Season 4, Volume 1.

As much as I hate it when Netflix splits seasons into two parts, I can't deny the wait for Volume 2 of Outer Banks has kept the series in my mind for weeks since it premiered on TV in 2024. It feels like every day I find more things I want to see in the final five episodes. Now, considering where we left our treasure hunters during the midseason finale, I'm excited to find out what will happen to the Pogues when the series returns on November 7th.

Part of the excitement has to do with the fact that I'm curious to see whether the Pogues will be able to find the Blue Crown and get out of the treasure hunt once and for all. After all, that's the main plot of this season. However, I also can't stop thinking about the characters and how they're in the worst shape they've ever been. And that's saying something, considering that John B. almost died a record number of times in the first three seasons alone.

By the end of the first five episodes, it felt like the crew was more spread out than ever before, and that doesn't bode well for the challenges they'll face when Volume 2 arrives. Since binging shows sometimes makes us forget all the details, you might not remember where it all was Outer Banks Characters were at the end of Episode 5. But don't worry, we are here to help you!

Pope and Sarah are stuck in the Charleston crypt

Undoubtedly, after Volume 1, Pope and Sarah found themselves in the most dangerous and precarious situation. In case you don't remember, after arriving in Charleston, the gang found the church and cemetery that Pope believes are the key to tracking down “Blue Crown.” Once inside, Pope teams up with Sarah for the first time and the two go into the crypt to track down the treasure.

After accidentally locking themselves out of the access route, Pope and Sarah attempt to escape, using the route Lightner and Dalia used to get ahead of them. Unfortunately, they sealed the tomb on the way out, leaving Pope and Sarah behind. To make matters worse, the heavy rain from outside has begun to enter the crypt and flood it.

As unfortunate as the situation is, Sarah and Pope both have experience getting into and out of dangerous situations. If the Pogues have taught me anything, it is to never underestimate them and their will to survive. I'm sure they'll break out of the tomb by the end of Episode 6 at the latest.

JJ and Kiara are still in Kildare

As much as I love JJ, he made terrible decisions this season.

After receiving a cryptic message, he decides to find out what it means by leaving the Pogues and staying behind in Kildare. The move leads him to reconnect with his estranged father Luke, who he believed was out of the country. However, the plot twists don't end there.

As they flee the police, Luke breaks JJ's life-changing news: he is not his biological father. In fact, JJ isn't a Pogue at all, but rather the son of Groff and Larissa Genrette, making him the heir to the family fortune and Goat Island.

Since JJ's whereabouts are unknown to the Pogues, Kiara decides to stay in Kildare until she can track down JJ. She decides to keep the Kildare County Surf Shop open in the meantime as they are all short on cash. It's a smart decision until Rafe shows up looking for Sarah. Even after dealing with the Kook, Kiara is in great shape heading into the final five episodes.

However, now I'm wondering how she'll react to this revelation JJ just had.

John B in Outer Banks Season 4

John B. and Cleo are above ground in Charleston

For the first time in his life, John B. is afraid of treasure hunting. When we leave him at the end of Volume 1, he's simply put off shooting Lightner for fear of becoming like his father, Big John. Although he lives above ground in Charleston, his mind is completely submerged as he struggles to deal with the trauma surrounding his relationship with his late father.

Cleo is in a similar condition. She finds herself above ground in Charleston, processing her trauma surrounding the tragic loss of her father figure, Terrance. However, unlike John B, Cleo does not share his fears of taking his own life and instead vows to take revenge on Lightner for what he did to Terrance. Not even the near suffocation of said antagonist is enough to dissuade her from plotting her revenge.

The Pogues are definitely in a tough spot physically and emotionally, but that seems to be their goal. They've essentially hit rock bottom, which means the only place they can go is up. I just know that Outer Banks Season 4, Volume 2 is not to be missed. So make sure you get those Netflix subscriptions ready because we'll come back to that OBX to find out what happens to the Pogues on November 7th.
