Former President Donald Trump was re-elected to a second term on Wednesday and will soon return to the White House. His victory over Vice President Kamala Harris comes after his defeat in the 2020 election, an attack on the U.S. Capitol by his supporters and charges of more than 30 hush-money crimes.

As of Wednesday morning, Trump had received 277 Electoral College votes — 270 needed to win the presidential race, USA TODAY reported. Harris' count came to 224 votes.

The results in the main swing states – Nevada, Arizona, Alaska, Michigan and Maine – are still undecided.

When will Trump take office?

As stated in the US Constitution, Trump will take office on January 20, 2025. This year January 20th falls on a Monday.

What happens on Inauguration Day?

Inauguration Day events taking place at the US Capitol in Washington DC include the swearing-in of the President and Vice President-elect, the inaugural address and passport verification. The day also includes speakers and live performances.

Who has performed at the presidential inauguration in the past?

Over the years, numerous prominent musicians have performed on Inauguration Day. At President Joe Biden's 2021 inauguration, Lady Gaga and Jennifer Lopez serenaded those in attendance in person and from their own homes.

At Trump's first inauguration in 2017, “America's Go Talent” star Jackie Evancho, the late Toby Keith and rock band 3 Doors Down were part of the live entertainment, USA TODAY reported.

To mark the inauguration of Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1941, actor Mickey Rooney, then just 19 years old, gave a piano concert on Inauguration Day, according to Vogue. He was joined by filmmaker Charlie Chaplin, who gave a speech.

According to the White House Historical Association, Dwight D. Eisenhower invited Marion Anderson to sing the national anthem at his inauguration in 1957. Anderson was the first black woman to sing the national anthem at the presidential inauguration.

According to Vogue, Frank Sinatra performed at John F. Kennedy's inauguration in 1961, part of Fleetwood Mac performed at Bill Clinton's inauguration in 1993, and the boy band 98 Degrees performed at George W. Bush's inauguration in 2001.

However, perhaps Barack Obama's inauguration in 2009 welcomed the most stars. Bruce Springsteen, U2, Stevie Wonder, Tom Hanks, Aretha Franklin, John Legend, Shakira, Garth Brooks, Usher and Beyoncé were just some of the performers, according to Vogue. Beyoncé performed again at Obama's inauguration in 2013.
