Former President Donald Trump was elected to another term, defeating Vice President Kamala Harris.

According to USA TODAY, Trump's victory is considered one of the most remarkable comebacks in political history. He reclaimed the White House just four years after voters rejected his first attempt at a second term.

Trump defeated Harris by receiving at least 270 of the electoral votes needed to win the presidency. However, his tally could rise as more votes are counted.

But when will Trump and incoming Vice President JD Vance take office? Let's take a look.

The next inauguration ceremony will take place on Monday, January 20, 2025.

What is the presidential oath of office?

On Inauguration Day, the vice president-elect is first sworn in and repeats the same oath of office that senators, representatives and other federal employees take. The following oath has been in use since 1884:

“I solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will show her true faith and loyalty; that I will undertake this obligation voluntarily and without any obligation.” and that I will perform well and faithfully the duties of the office which I am about to assume: “So help me, God.”

Then, around noon, the President-elect recites another oath consistent with Article II, Section I of the U.S. Constitution.

“I solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully discharge the office of President of the United States and to preserve, protect and defend to the best of my ability the Constitution of the United States.”

What happens on Inauguration Day?

The inauguration is planned by the Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies. Events include the swearing-in ceremony, the inaugural address and a troop briefing.

Previous artists and speakers have included Beyoncé, Garth Brooks, Lady Gaga and Amanda Gorman. There are other events before and after the inauguration, including the inaugural parade and inaugural balls, USA Today reports.
