Watch Shemar Moore celebrate SWAT's 150 episodes by talking about how he almost said "no" to his role and reflecting on the double cancellation

As SWAT As it prepares to return for its eighth season on TV in 2024, the CBS procedural has a lot to celebrate. The series is making a comeback after being canceled for the second time, and ahead of the eighth season, the cast and crew celebrated a major milestone with 150 episodes. Shemar Moore also gave one of his famous speeches to his colleagues about it, revealing that he almost said no to the role and reflecting on how the show was saved twice.

Earlier this week, the cast and crew gathered around a SWAT-Themed cake to celebrate her milestone. Moore shared a video of the speech on Instagram, where he thanked everyone working on the show and those who came before them, such as the original SWAT Series and films, take a look:

Moore also revealed in the speech that he initially turned down the show “because the money sucked.” However, it was a conversation with his mother that changed his mind, he said

I passed, and it was because the money sucked. And then Shawn Ryan sent me a really nice email, and then a script or the pilot followed, and I came through with the teaser. And I was at my mom's house – and mom's in heaven, mom was smiling at me and at us – but I was at my mom's house and at 9:30 in the morning I said, “Mom, let's drink some Hennessy.”' and her said, 'But it's nine in the morning.' I said, “Read this teaser.” And she sat down and read the teaser at 74 years old and said, “Oh, baby, oh, this is my son's show.”

Furthermore, the actor felt the need to reassure everyone of this SWAT is not just him or a single person, but a whole village. He even fought to have everyone on the first poster as the network only wanted him.

Of course, he also felt the need to point out that the series hasn't been canceled twice, and it's truly incredible to see the show now celebrating a major milestone despite coming close to ending more than once. While the future is always uncertain, the Criminal minds alum admitted that he is determined to get the series to 10 seasons and 200 episodes, and it wouldn't surprise me if that happened in just two years.

The 150th^Th The celebration couldn't have come at a better time SWAT Returning for Season 8 in the same week. It was announced back in April that the drama was not canceled for the second time in less than a year and filming began in the summer. Even though the series will look a little different for Season 8 with some cast changes since Alex Russell and Kenny Johnson both left last season, there will still be an exciting sequence of episodes.

Earlier this month, Shemar Moore also shared during a CBS fall preview video that he was “grateful” to be coming back for another season, and I couldn't have said it better myself. Now that the series has reached 150 episodes, although it could easily have ended at 128 or 141 episodes, “grateful” is perhaps the best way to describe the feeling that we're getting more.

That is very possible SWAT could reach 200 episodes, and CBS President Amy Reisenbach previously shared that she personally enjoys Moore's show and was glad the network was able to renegotiate with Sony. Hopefully this mentality sticks around for a while and the show continues to be renewed. Even though it's exciting to look into the future, we should focus on the present because SWAT The eighth season premieres Friday, October 18 at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
