Can the Detroit Lions continue in Week 8 against the Tennessee Titans?

Sunday will be a very different test for a Lions team that has become accustomed to playing big games on big stages. The Lions decimated the Dallas Cowboys when they faced them in Fox's Game of the Week and then scored a big division win over the Minnesota Vikings when they were slight underdogs, a rarity for Dan Campbell's squad these days. The game before was a Monday Night Football showdown against the Seattle Seahawks.

This week the Lions will have to test their mental strength and concentration against an inferior opponent when they host a struggling Titans team.

The Titans struggled throughout the team, but particularly struggled at the quarterback position. Will Levis has started all but one game for the Titans, but missed last week's game against the Buffalo Bills when substitute Mason Rudolph came on. According to reports, Rudolph will likely be back in the starting lineup against the Lions while Levis continues to recover from a shoulder injury and was listed as questionable all week.

Either way, the Lions will have a clear advantage at the quarterback position, as Jared Goff has been one of the best players in the league this year and is a legitimate MVP candidate.

The Titans are in the first year of a new regime after firing Mike Vrabel in the offseason and bringing in Brian Callahan for a more offensive-focused approach.

Lions vs. Titans prediction, tips, betting odds

Dave Birkett, Detroit Free Press: I think this is a trap game. The Lions are one of the three best teams in football, the Titans clearly are not. The Lions are coming off a big division win over the Vikings and will have showdowns against potential playoff teams Green Bay Packers and Houston Texans in the next two weeks. And they will be shorthanded at the receiver and defensive positions due to suspensions and injuries. Despite all of this, I see no way the Lions will lose this game. The Titans have a good defensive core, but they haven't made enough game-changing plays this season to be considered one of the NFL's best on that side of the ball. Tennessee will need to run the ball well and often to keep this game close, but the Lions simply have too much offensive firepower to blow a game like this at home. The choice: Lions 27, Titans 13.

INSIDER: The Vikings' “crazy” plan is only keeping the Lions from leading the NFC North

Opportunities: Lions at 11½.

Over/under: 45 points.

Money line: Lions (-650), Titans (+475).
