Vikings RB Aaron Jones left the game with a hip injury

Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones will play Sunday against the New York Jets because of a hip injury, the team announced.

It wasn't immediately clear when Jones suffered the injury, but the last time he touched the ball was on a 24-yard catch during a wild stretch in the first quarter. Quarterback Sam Darnold had left the game with an injury, and backup Nick Mullens fired a 24-yard pass to Jones on a wheel route to convert a third-and-5.

The pass was a little short, and Jones jumped up to catch the ball and came down hard. On the next play, he was replaced by reliever Ty Chandler, who fumbled a pitch from Darnold – who himself had returned to the game.

Before his catch, Jones had rushed for 29 yards on seven carries. He rushed for 350 yards this season in his first season with the Vikings after signing a one-year deal as a free agent in the spring.

The Vikings have a bye in Week 6, which could minimize the time Jones could potentially miss.
