According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones was ruled out for the remainder of his team's game against the New Jets on Sunday due to a hamstring injury.

Jones left the game in the first quarter, leaving the trio of Ty Chandler, Myles Gaskin and fullback CJ Ham to take over running back duties in his place.

Jones, 29, has had a good start to his tenure in Minnesota. Entering Sunday, he had rushed for 321 yards and a touchdown in four games, while also recording 16 catches for 143 yards and another score.

Against the Jets, he ran seven times for 29 yards in the first quarter and added one catch for 24 yards.

Jones, who spent the first seven years of his career with the Green Bay Packers, was part of a revamped offense that includes Comeback Player of the Year candidate Sam Darnold at quarterback. At least so far, these offseason additions have worked out pretty well for the Vikings.

“It has been a blessing to be a Minnesota Viking and I feel like I made the best decision,” Jones told reporters last week. “I think this team is really good. We believe in ourselves, so we just keep going.”

However, if his injury is serious, Chandler will be the first to expect a heavier workload and tailback. The 26-year-old passed for 461 yards and three touchdowns and caught 21 passes for 159 yards, all career highs, in his third season in Minnesota last season.

CJ Ham 11 (3 as solo RB, 8 as FB)

Gaskin, 27, totaled 1,196 yards and six touchdowns in the 2020-21 season for the Miami Dolphins, but barely saw the field in 2022 for Miami and recorded no stats in stints with the Vikings and Los Angeles Rams last season .

As for Ham, 31, he has primarily played as a full-back throughout his career, a role he is likely to continue to fill when Jones runs out of time in the future.
