Veterans Day parade, events and more in Kitsap

A Veterans Day parade through downtown Poulsbo will once again honor those who have served the nation on Saturday, November 9th, before the county's traditional Veterans Day event at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds on Monday, November 11th .

These two upcoming events highlight different ways individuals and organizations will celebrate Veterans Day 2024 in Kitsap County and beyond.

Ceremony at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds: On Monday, November 11, the Bremerton-Olympic Peninsula Navy League, in collaboration with 42 other organizations, will host its annual Veterans Day program at the Kitsap County Fairgrounds from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Antique military vehicles and old military uniforms will be on display at the venue. The keynote speaker will be retired LCDR Thomas Kleehammer, a 20-year SEAL veteran, including a SEAL Team One combat tour in Vietnam. According to the Navy League, he was the officer in charge of the float recovery team for the recovery of the Apollo-Soyuz space module in 1975.

Downtown Poulsbo Parade: The second annual Veterans Day Parade along Front Street will take place on Saturday, November 9th. The parade begins at 11 a.m., followed by live music downtown.

Free Breakfast in Bremerton: A second annual Veteran's Day breakfast will be held at McCloud's Grill House, 4111 Wheaton Way, just north of the Kitsap Transit Transfer Center. A special complimentary breakfast is offered to all current and former military personnel. Further information can be found on the event page.

Free Meals in Port Orchard: That One Place offers free meals to active military and veterans with valid ID. Pancakes are available for veterans from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. and a burger menu is available from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Further information can be found on the event page.

Go Farther – Live violin performance, war poetry reading in Gig Harbor: A senior living community, Gig Harbor Court, will pay tribute to military veterans at a public meeting on Tuesday, November 12th from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. The event includes a live violin performance, a war poetry reading and a salute to military personnel. The poems will be read by a local veteran who expresses personal and historical reflections in his written works. The event will be held at 3213 45th St Ct NW ​​in Gig Harbor.

Remembering the Medal of Honor recipient in Sequim: The U.S. Navy Seabees (Naval Construction Force) will host the 59th annual memorial service at Gardiner Cemetery, Sequim, in honor of Medal of Honor recipient Construction Mechanic 3rd Class Marvin Shields. The event begins on Saturday, November 9th at 11am. Community members are invited to attend and participants can take part in a celebratory ceremony with remarks from local leaders, reflections on veterans' contributions and moments of remembrance, according to NAVFAC Northwest. Gardiner Cemetery is located at 137 Gardiner Cemetery Road. Shuttle pick-up and drop-off service is available from Gardiner Community Church at 1040 Old Gardiner Road.
