Arizona State is encouraging its fans to wear black at tonight's game against Utah, but isn't following its own advice.

The Sun Devils will wear maroon jerseys for Big 12 play at Mountain America Stadium.

ASU athletic director Graham Rossini explained why in two posts on X.

“Sorry for the confusion,” he wrote. “This one is mine – we prioritized the gold strategy uniform this fall and didn't have enough time to put on a black one once the game themes were decided. We could have been more clear when publishing the topics. That's on me.” But we still ask fans to wear black – what a cool scene in the stadium at night games! Come join us and add even more energy to this incredible Sun Devils team!”
