Tuten breaks record, turnovers galore, Hokies avoid collapse in 42-21 win over Boston College

Blacksburg, VA – This story begins and ends under the bright lights of Worsham Field with Bhayshul Tuten. The transfer from North Carolina A&T was beyond exceptional, breaking the Hokie single-game rushing record with 266 yards and four total touchdowns against the Boston College Eagles.

Between the covers of this tute-stamped book lie chapters of an erratic, sloppy game that repeatedly robbed both sides of their confidence.

Tech got off to a clean start at 28-0. Kyron Drones rushed for 144 yards and a touchdown with a cool 92% completion rate in the first half. Meanwhile, Tuten tallied 128 yards and two touchdowns in the first half, split on ground and air.

That, combined with two Eagles turnovers, made Tech look like they were opening the gates to the most dominant Hokie win under Brent Pry in just one half.

One of the most famous sayings in football is that there is nothing more dangerous than a two-goal lead. Something about the two-goal lead gives the winning team a false sense of security. Maybe the same applies to football, except that up to four points there is a false sense?

Jumping right out of the gates in the second half, the Hokie looked apathetic, and a pass from Thomas Castellanos to Treshaun Ward gave the Eagles a glimmer of hope. Suddenly, a poor pass from the Drones gave Bill O'Brien's team a shot inside the red Tech zone, which they snatched, leaving the white-clad Eagles trailing by 14 points.

Just one play later, Tuten lost the ball and gave Boston College the ball again in the Hokies' end zone. They took advantage of the Hokies' luck and made it 28:21 after a five-pointer from Kyle Robichaux. Yard rushing touchdown.

Luckily for Hokie fans, that torrid third period was over after a lively team clash that had everything Hokie focused on Pry. Tech has gotten back together.

Two more tut touchdowns and a defense led by Chris Marvel ultimately cemented the Hokie victory. Still, there were moments when a once-shaky Lane Stadium collapsed to the ground with the resounding echo of a pin, showing that Pry and his staff still lack the crucial ability to put games on ice, and that they are sacrificing themselves in the process Leaving a world-class talent Although Bhayshul Tuten and the nation's scoring leader Antwaun Powell-Ryland Jr. (11) can get you over the line in some games, there is a lack of consistency that needs to be taken into account.
