Former President Donald Trump announced at his final campaign stop in North Carolina that he would impose significant tariffs on goods from Mexico if the country does not stop the flow of migrants into the United States

The event in Raleigh was Trump's final address to North Carolina voters before Election Day – one of three planned stops in the state of North Carolina on Monday.

“This is truly the end of a journey. But a new one will begin. And that's the journey we wanted to be a part of, which is basically making America great again,” Trump told attendees.

Trump announced for the first time that if elected, he would immediately impose a 25% tariff on everything imported from Mexico if the country does not stop the flow of migrants and drugs into the country.

“I will inform them (Mexico President Claudia Sheinbaum) on the first day or sooner that if they do not stop this onslaught of criminals and drugs coming into our country, I will immediately impose a 25% tariff on everything “What they send to the United States of America,” Trump said during the rally.

“You’re the first people I told this to. Congratulations, North Carolina,” he added. “And there's only a 100 percent chance that it works, because if it doesn't work, I'll make it to 50, and if that works, I'll make it to 75 for the tough guys, then I'll make it to 100.” “

Trump said that as one of the U.S.'s largest trading partners, Mexico is “ripping us off left and right.”

Trump further discussed his immigration plan and the southern border, saying, “We want people to come to our country, but they have to come legally.”

“I will invoke the Alien Enemies Act of 1798 to target and dismantle every criminal migrant network operating on American soil. And if they return to our country, they automatically face 10 years in prison without the possibility of parole,” he said. “And I hereby call for the death penalty for any migrant who kills an American citizen or law enforcement officer. And I will immediately ban all cities of refuge.”

The former president also highlighted the state's record early voting, after about 4.2 million North Carolinians cast ballots before Election Day.
