Top Ten Experiences – Shakes – Eye of the Tiger, Week 7

Top Ten Experiences – Shakes – Eye of the Tiger, Week 7

Recent games haven't been nearly as shocking as the week before, but many teams still had their hands full in Week 7 of college football. The now 19th-ranked Missouri Tigers were the only team to pick up an easy win in conference play this week, albeit against the UMass Minutemen.

The rest of the SEC didn't have it so easy. Every other conference game was decided by 10 points or less, with all games still contested in the fourth quarter.

Outside the SEC, almost everyone who needed to take care of business did so. The No. 3 Oregon Ducks walked away with a win over the No. 2 Ohio State Buckeyes and Penn State narrowly escaped the USC Trojans on the road. Some teams showed their true colors last week, preparing for an intriguing second half of the college football season.

Auburn: Bye week
No. 7 Alabama: 27:25 win over South Carolina
No. 18 Oklahoma: 34-3 loss to No. 1 Texas
South Carolina: 27-25 loss to No. 7 Alabama
Mississippi State: 41-31 loss to No. 5 Georgia
Arkansas: Bye week

Auburn and Arkansas had time to relax and reflect on the past few weeks, as the Razorbacks pulled off an upset win over Tennessee and Auburn pulled off a tough loss to Georgia. Missouri faces Auburn in its next home game, another tough game and a good chance for a win. The Tigers face the Razorbacks in their final regular season game of the year.

The Alabama Crimson Tide looked a little suspect for the second week in a row, narrowly escaping with a win over South Carolina at home. After the Gamecocks recovered an onside kick, quarterback LaNorris Sellers soon turned the ball over to seal the game. It was a poor decision by Sellers that cost his team the game. He put in one of his best performances of the season so far, which he can build on.

Oklahoma didn't show much resilience against the top team in the country. Their longstanding struggles at the quarterback position were put under the spotlight and their veteran defense struggled to get stops. The Longhorn defense appeared unstoppable, but there were minimal signs of life from the other side.

As with previous Tiger matchups, the Vanderbilt Commodores marched to Lexington, Kentucky, and defeated the Wildcats 20-13. Quarterback Diego Pavia worked in the air and on the ground, hitting six different reception targets. They moved to 4-2 this season and it now looks like a win for every team that beat them, including the Tigers.

No. 18 Indiana: Bye week
No. 18 Kansas State: 31-28 win over Colorado
No. 22 Pittsburgh: 17-15 win over Pittsburgh
No. 23 Illinois: 50-49 win over Purdue

Both Ohio State and Oregon appeared to be top-five teams, even though the Buckeyes suffered a loss. They, along with Penn State, appear to be the teams to beat at the top of the Big 10. USC has three losses following the loss to Penn State. They still look competitive and could finish at the top of the conference as well. The Indiana Hoosiers appear to be sleepers in the conference, but are still waiting for their first real test.

The LSU Tigers, who stayed in the SEC, got arguably their best win of the weekend against Ole Miss. It came down to the wire, but quarterback Garrett Nussmeier found receiver Kyren Lacy for a game-winning 25-yard touchdown in overtime. Regardless of his inefficiency in regulation, he showcased his clutch gene.
