Dozens dead in Spain after catastrophic flooding in Valencia

At least 51 people have died in Spain after torrential rains that fell for hours in the European country's eastern areas, including Valencia, sent water rushing over mountains and causing rivers and streams to burst their banks.

The rise in deaths marks the worst flood disaster in Europe since 2021, when almost 200 people died, mostly in Germany.

Cities across the region were under meters of water and countless people were rescued from the raging waters. Government officials have urged people to seek higher ground if possible and to sleep on the upper floors of homes and businesses.

Watch: 'Halloween' comet vaporized after flying into the sun
