Possible Tropical Cyclone 18, which could strengthen into Hurricane Rafael

Forecasters continue to monitor potential Tropical Cyclone Eighteen as it becomes more organized over the Caribbean Sea, and the National Hurricane Center expects the system will likely strengthen into Hurricane Rafael as it slowly moves north.

A tropical storm warning is in effect for Jamaica and a hurricane warning is in effect for the Cayman Islands. The NHC says watches and warnings could be issued for Cuba and the Florida Keys as early as Monday.

Area to watch in the Atlantic as the final month of hurricane season begins

The 2024 Atlantic hurricane season is just a few weeks away and the basin is still very busy.

In addition to potential Tropical Cyclone 18, meteorologists are also eyeing a low pressure system that could develop in the southwestern Atlantic and that could slowly become more organized as it moves west.
