NEW DELHI: New Zealand secured a historic Test win in India, their first since 1988, by successfully pursuing a challenging target in difficult conditions on the final day of the first Test in Bengaluru on Sunday.
The victory was only the third triumph on Indian soil in almost seven decades.

India were bowled out for a paltry 46 in the first innings, their lowest score at home, to which New Zealand responded with a commanding 402.

Despite India's improved performance in the second innings, scoring 462, New Zealand's bowlers set the stage for a 1-0 lead in the three-match series.
After the defeat, India's wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant took to social media to share his thoughts.

“This game will test your limits, knock you down, lift you up, and throw you back again. But those who love it become stronger every time. Thank you to the amazing audience in Bengaluru for the love, support and cheers. We will come back stronger,” Pant wrote.

Will Young (48 not out) and Rachin Ravindra (39 not out) showed composure despite the pressure and guided New Zealand to the required 107 runs after losing two early wickets.

The win was particularly impressive given the absence of injured batsman Kane Williamson and underlined the team's resilience.
Along with England and Australia, New Zealand is the only team to have beaten India at home since 2013.
