This Buccaneers-Dolphins emergency trade would replace Chris Godwin and Mike Evans

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' once-great season is collapsing before their eyes. Although they are 4-3 this season, they were embarrassed against the Baltimore Ravens Monday Night Football. More importantly, their two star wide receivers, Mike Evans and Chris Godwin, are no longer counted for the time being. Evans will return soon, but Godwin may have played his last loss in Tampa.

Week 8 features a crucial home game against the NFC South-leading Atlanta Falcons, a team that won a barnburner in overtime Thursday Night Football Just a few weeks ago, Tampa Bay had to do something. While Miami Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill might be the deciding factor on paper, I don't think the Buccaneers will give up $30 million in assets for him this season.

That might be what it takes for the Buccaneers to trade for Hill in a blockbuster deal with the Dolphins.

For so many reasons, don't make this trade, Tampa Bay. To even come close to what Hill is doing with AAV, you would have to mortgage your entire future. You are not the Sean McVay Los Angeles Rams. They are not the Joe Gibbs Washington football franchise of yesterday. Do something stupid like that and you become the New Orleans Saints. Don't ruin your future here!

Trading for Hill would be as stupid as Tua Tagovailoa playing another NFL down, but here we are!

As long as quarterback Baker Mayfield can continue to play confidently in Liam Coen's offense, the Buccaneers should be able to stay in the playoff mix in the ever-deepening AFC. Should they lose to Atlanta for a second time, the Buccaneers would truly be behind eight balls in terms of winning the division. It would be ominous if Atlanta pulled off a sweep and went 4-0 in the NFC South game.

Regardless, I have a hard time imagining Jason Licht, one of the best general managers in football, putting his job on the line for a risky Hill trade venture. Although he may be the fastest player in football, what has he gained since leaving Kansas City? The Dolphins have their longest active playoff losing streak since 2000. I don't think Dave Wannstedt's sage wisdom will save Mike McDaniel's team.

The most important thing to realize about this exercise is that while trading for Hill would be the biggest contingency, it feels far too punitive when it comes to what Tampa Bay would have to give up to get him. It wasn't that long ago that Hill redefined the wide receiver market with his deal to Miami. Yes, he would do a lot of good on offense for this Buccaneers team, but Hill isn't the guy worth pressuring.

There are potentially other wide receivers on the market that don't cost as much as Hill.
