The Vols fall late to the Razorbacks 19-14

Apparently it doesn't matter how good either team is. Whenever the Tennessee Volunteers travel to Arkansas to take on the Razorbacks, the trip is never smooth for the Big Orange.

Add another entry to this ugly story on Saturday evening.

Malachi Singleton of Arkansas scored from 11 yards with 1:17 left and Arkansas defeated #4 Tennessee 19-14 at Razorback Stadium. Nico Iamaleava had the Vols down inside the 20 with six seconds left, but on the final play he inexplicably ran out of bounds instead of at least attempting a throw into the end zone.

It was a lifeless, flat performance from the Vols from the start. Tennessee's offensive line was terrible and continually gave up pressure as the Razorbacks' secondary stuck to Tennessee's receivers like glue. Nico Iamaleava took three sacks and was put under a lot more pressure. The Vols finished the first half with 76 yards of total offense, their fewest in the Josh Heupel era, as Arkansas led 3-0 at halftime.

The Vols rallied with two touchdown drives in the third quarter, including their first from the locker room. Dylan Sampson finally got Tennessee's offense going with a 53-yard run inside the 5-yard line, which he later punched in to give Tennessee the lead. Sampson extended that lead to 14-3 on the next drive with a 4-yard touchdown, and Vol fans seemed to be able to breathe a sigh of relief.

But that's all the offense could muster for the game. Meanwhile, Arkansas would slowly get back into the game. A Ja'Quinden Jackson touchdown brought the Hogs within 14-10. A lower-body injury to Arkansas QB Taylen Green appeared to derail the Arkansas offense at 14:13, and Tennessee had the ball with less than 4 minutes left and a chance to run out the clock.

Unfortunately for the Tennessee fans, that wasn't possible and they went out of bounds three times to give the ball back to Arkansas with great field position at their own 41 yard line. A 13-yard pass and 24-yard run put Arkansas well within field goal range. and the Hogs continued to push into the red zone against the Vols' suddenly vulnerable defense.

Instead of letting Arkansas run out the clock and kick a field goal, the Vols let Arkansas score with 1:17 left. Iamaleava connected with Donte Thornton for a 42-yard gain to give himself a chance, but the glimmer of hope died when Iamaleava went out of bounds.

Iamaleava had by far his worst game, completing 17 of 29 passes for just 158 yards. Sampson led the Vols on the ground with 138 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries.

The Vols have Florida in Knoxville next weekend.
