NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Three-time Pro Bowl safety Jamal Adams' tenure with the Tennessee Titans ended Thursday on his 29th birthday with his release after the team moved the eight-year veteran to reserve/non-football last weekend. had put on the injury list.

This roster move came after the Titans (1-4) had already ruled out Adams with a hip injury. Adams started one of three games for Tennessee and had just one tackle in the Titans' only win at Miami on September 30.

The New York Jets' 2017 first-round pick signed a one-year deal with Tennessee shortly before training camp opened in July. He experienced joining a defense coordinated by his former Jets secondary coach Dennard Wilson along with safeties coach Steve Jackson and linebackers coach Frank Bush, which gave him a measure of security. His former Seattle safety Quandre Diggs was already on Tennessee's roster.

The sixth overall pick out of LSU started every game in his first two seasons with the Jets and every game of his career until this season when healthy. Adams only stayed with the Jets for three seasons before moving to the Seahawks in 2020, where he was named to the Pro Bowl for the third straight season that season. But he has played in just 10 games over the last two seasons in Seattle.

The Seahawks released him and Diggs in March, despite pocketing nearly $20 million in dead cap money by not waiting until after June 1.

Diggs started all five games after signing with Tennessee this offseason along with Amani Hooker. When asked Wednesday if he had spoken to Adams, Diggs said he speaks with his friend regularly but declined to comment on what happened between Adams and the Titans.

“All I can do is be there for my brother, you know,” Diggs said. “I mean, that's all I can do.” That's all I'll do. …Whatever is going on, you have to stay within yourself. And you know, they’ll figure it out.”

The Titans currently have the NFL's stingiest defense in terms of total yards allowed and against the pass. Seven of the starters in last week's 20-17 loss to Indianapolis were brought in this offseason, including Diggs.
