EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ – Micah Parsons wore one shoe and carried the other in his hand outside the visitors' locker room at MetLife Stadium. To reach the Dallas Cowboys buses, he needed the assistance of a golf cart.

The linebacker, his left ankle heavily taped, waited as if he were a few miles away in Manhattan waiting for a taxi. Parsons' ride emerged and he limped in, with the next few days crucial in determining the severity of the injury he sustained in the closing moments of the Cowboys' 20-15 victory Thursday over the New York Giants.

With less than four minutes left and the Giants facing a crucial third down, Parsons burst through the middle of the Giants' offensive line.

Members of the Dallas training staff helped him walk carefully off the field as he struggled to put weight on his left leg. He was later carried into the locker room with his left shoe removed. After the game, he clearly limped around the locker room.

Giants center John Michael Schmitz blocked Parsons against Giants right guard Greg Van Roten as Van Roten fell to the ground. Parsons lay beneath Van Roten and immediately appeared to be in pain.

“While I was planting,” Parsons said, “a guy fell on me.”

Micah Parsons injury update: Cowboys linebacker update following Giants game

Parsons confirmed after the game that he had suffered an ankle injury but could provide few details. He said the X-rays were negative, but added that he was scheduled for an MRI scan in Dallas on Friday. Parsons declined to elaborate on the nature of the injury.

“We have no idea,” he said, adding that he had never felt this way on a football field.

The Cowboys will next face the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 5 on “Sunday Night Football.”

No one in the Dallas ecosystem seemed overly concerned. Head coach Mike McCarthy had no official update and said he had not spoken to Parsons since he left the field during the game.

“Honestly, I just hope it’s nothing serious,” quarterback Dak Prescott said. “I don't have a lot of doubts or negative thoughts going through my head, so yeah, I didn't even want to think about anything important. I hope so.” that my thoughts are correct and it’s something small. He seemed to be in a good mood, so I’m in a good mood.”

Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs knelt next to Parsons as he writhed in pain on the MetLife turf.

“I just made sure he was straight,” Diggs said. “This is my best friend. I just wanted him to be okay. But he’ll be fine.”

Parsons had two tackles (one for loss) during the game. He briefly exited the first half with a neck injury after officials forced him to leave following a severe hit he suffered from his own teammate, Cowboys second-year defensive tackle Mazi Smith.

The two-time All-Pro entered Thursday with six quarterback hits and a sack. The Cowboys won for the first time since Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns. Parsons believes there is still plenty of room for improvement.

“I’m tired of coming around,” Parsons said. “I don't want to come by anymore. I want real victories – winning consistently.”
