The Lakers' rookie is having a preseason explosion

The Lakers' rookie is having a preseason explosion

Longtime NBA superstar Anthony Davis scored an incredible 35 points in preseason play Thursday night to help Los Angeles to a 6-point overtime victory over the Suns.

And oddly enough, he wasn't the only Laker to reach that mark.

Dalton Knecht, one of the freshest Lakers on the roster, scored 35 points on 10-for-18 shooting in 32 minutes off the bench. He shot a blistering 8-for-13 from 3-point land, including seven of his eight free throw attempts, while adding an important seven rebounds, two steals, two blocks and an assist.

And despite his already gaudy line, it wasn't the final score that was the most impressive part of the game. Late in the fourth quarter and into overtime, Knecht scored 20 consecutive points for Los Angeles in one of the most remarkable rookie performances of all time, preseason or not.

He finished with 20 of the team's final 22 points. The performance was, to put it simply, impressive.

The competition could certainly be a starting point for Knecht to become an important contributor to the Lakers. At 23 years old, he is already more experienced as a player than most of his class. And with his frame, athleticism and shooting ability, he should be able to earn minutes quicker than many expect.

Knecht and Los Angeles will make their official regular season debut against the Minnesota Timberwolves on Tuesday, October 22nd at 9pm CT.
