The Guardians got on the offensive a little too late in the 5-2 loss to the Astros

CLEVELAND, Ohio – Guardians fans who believe in bad omens should read no further.

Facing a potential playoff opponent in their final regular-season opener on Friday, the Guardians fell behind early and didn't show much on offense until the ninth inning, when the Astros handed Cleveland a 5-2 loss at Progressive Field.

From one perspective, such a loss could be seen as a harbinger of ruin for Cleveland's championship ambitions, as the two clubs are currently primed for a potential playoff duel. But the Guardians can take solace in the fact that a lot has to happen between now and the American League Division Series opener on October 5 before something like that happens.
