The governor of Alaska speaks about Trump's victory and the state's energy needs

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (KTUU) – Less than a day after Donald Trump's triumphant return to the White House, Alaska Gov. Mike Dunleavy left open the possibility of joining the new administration.

In a live interview with Alaska News Source evening anchor Rebecca Palsha on Wednesday, Dunleavy was asked if the Trump team had contacted him about a possible position within the new administration.

“That possibility is always there,” Dunleavy said. “I’m very happy to have a discussion with the president about anything as long as it can move Alaska forward.”

Dunleavy said his excitement about Trump's reelection stems from his conversations with him in the past about resource development in the state, particularly oil and natural gas on Alaska's North Slope and opening the Tongass National Forest to logging and tourism.

In an additional sit-down interview with Alaska News Source political reporter Steve Kirch, Dunleavy discussed the election victory, his own experience on election night, what Trump's victory means for Alaska and the state's energy needs, and how his role as governor will change in the future could be the future.
