With just under 3:00 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter on Monday night and a third-and-7 originating from the Pittsburgh Steelers' 19-yard line, TJ Watt outran New York Giants right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor and stripped the quarterback -Sack Daniel Jones.

Although the Giants had one last chance to score, Watt's sack effectively ended the game.

Watt is a dominant player, but even to the untrained eye, something seemed off about his game. And as it turns out, there was.

“(Watt) should be chipped,” head coach Brian Daboll told reporters. “Jermaine was expecting a chip.”

Jones was supposed to move rookie tight end Theo Johnson from the left side to the right side to cover Watt, but that never happened. DJ got lost in the moment and didn't even see how Watt was coping.

“We had a shift with the tight end to go back to Watt and we didn’t get the shift,” Daboll said. “We talked about it in the locker room. DJ honestly feels terrible. I know it will be his. He came here to say it’s his.”

It was a rookie mistake from Jones and it's hard to understand how it even happened. It's not like Jones enjoys taking a beating like that. That's why it's baffling that he simply forgot to chip one of the league's best pass rushers, even though the game was designed to do just that.

Still, Daboll rated Jones as a competitor, even after the veteran quarterback yelled at him after a botched two-point conversion attempt early in the game.

“I loved it. I enjoyed seeing his competitiveness,” Daboll said. “He played hard. I thought he did a lot of good things and unfortunately we had a few turnovers at the end of the game. But I thought he played extremely hard, competitive and fiery, which is what you want from a quarterback.”

Lip service. Everyone, including Daboll, knows that Jones is in his final days with the Giants and he can't be happy about any of these incidents.
