Traffic from Oklahoma continues to be diverted from the Garrison Avenue Bridge, which spans the Arkansas River, due to a large fire in a four-story building in downtown Fort Smith, Arkansas.

The closure affects eastbound US 64 and US 64D in Sequoyah County. Oklahoma traffic will be diverted to the Dora exit.

According to an alert from the Oklahoma Department of Transportation, the bridge was closed at 8:49 a.m. and did not reopen late Wednesday afternoon.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is assisting Fort Smith Police during the closure.

The fire occurred at Bricktown Brewery, 318 Garrison Avenue, which has been downtown for more than 35 years. The roof and second floor of the building were particularly damaged. There was only water damage to the underside of the building.

No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. Officials believe the fire originally started in the kitchen. Firefighters were called to the original fire around 2:30 a.m. Wednesday, which broke out again around 7 a.m

Garrison Avenue and Fourth Street in downtown Fort Smith remain closed.
