The excitement surrounding the Dodgers-Yankees game is causing World Series ticket prices to skyrocket compared to last year

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — What happens when the two most valuable baseball franchises from the country's two largest cities meet on baseball's biggest stage – the World Series?

Demand is skyrocketing.

“The last time this happened was in 1981 and the teams have met (in the World Series) 12 times throughout history,” said Greg Nortman, executive vice president of ticketing and revenue partnerships at On Location. “This appeals to every generation. There was a great rivalry in the ’40s, ’50s and ’60s, and now it’s getting exciting again.”

Ticket prices for the opening game of the World Series at Dodger Stadium against the New York Yankees have skyrocketed, but a Dodgers spokesman urged fans to buy before the series sells out.

How do this year's ticket prices compare to previous World Series?

Last year, the average ticket price for a home game in Arizona was $843. And to attend a Texas Rangers game it was just over $1,100. This year, a ticket to Dodger Stadium averages over $1,300 and a seat at Yankee Stadium costs about $1,900.

Tickets for the World Series are actually cheaper than what you can expect for some other major sporting events, such as: B. a World Cup soccer game, which can cost between $1,000 and $7,000. And Super Bowl tickets average $2,500 to $6,000.

“It is a travel event. There are seven games that go back and forth, and so some of that demand may fade over the course of those seven games,” Nortman said. “Some fans can travel to different locations. You only get one shot at the Super Bowl, the Masters, the Final Four, and that’s reflected in the pricing.”

Nortman says if you're waiting for prices to drop, be careful. He says knowing how excited people are about this event, the gamble might not be worth it.
