Roberts said Ohtani is “in a great spot.”

Ohtani suffered a shoulder injury while attempting to steal second base in the seventh inning of the Dodgers' 4-2 win over the Yankees in Game 2. Ohtani arrived lame, left the field and walked into the clubhouse with his hand on his left shoulder.

Roberts gave an update on his injury late Saturday night after the game.

“We'll do some testing sometime tonight/tomorrow and then we'll know more in the next few days,” Roberts said. “The strength was great, the range of motion was good, so we’re encouraged.”

Ohtani is expected to be the National League MVP after the first 50-50 season in MLB history – he hit at least 50 home runs and stole at least 50 bases.

He led the National League with 54 home runs and 130 RBI. He also had 59 stolen bases.

He is 1-for-8 with one walk in two World Series games.

The Dodgers just signed Ohtani last winter to a record-breaking 10-year, $700 million contract that featured one of the most unusual payment structures in sports history, as $680 million won't even be paid to Ohtani until his contract expires.

Last year, Ohtani suffered an oblique injury in early September 2023 that ended his season. He was already struggling with a ligament injury in his elbow and ultimately had to undergo Tommy John surgery in mid-September.
