The Chicago White Sox lose their 121st game this season, the most in baseball history

The Chicago White Sox lost 4-1 to the Detroit Tigers on Friday, suffering their 121st loss of the season, the most in MLB history. The mark broke the previous record, set in 1962 by the expansion New York Mets.

Chicago won 93 games and the American League Central Division in 2021, but has been in a steady decline since then. The White Sox won 81 games in 2022 and 61 last season. They have won 36 games so far this season with six games remaining.

The offense was Chicago's most glaring problem. The White Sox are near the bottom in many key statistical categories and were added to the MLB last Tuesday as measured by hits, runs, home runs, batting average, runs batted in, total bases, on-base percentage and slugging percentage. (However, the team is second to last in the draw.)

First baseman Andrew Vaughn has the highest batting average on the team (and 87th in the league) with a .248 batting average this season.

The White Sox started the season 3-22, the worst 25-game start in franchise history.

On August 5, Chicago lost its 21st consecutive season game, another franchise record, becoming the first team since 1988 to lose at least 21 consecutive games. After winning nine games each in May and June, the team won a combined seven games in July and August.
