Texas A&M quarterback Conner Weigman is out for the game against Arkansas

For the third straight game, No. 24 Texas A&M football will likely rely on redshirt freshman quarterback Marcel Reed to lead its offense.

Redshirt sophomore quarterback Conner Weigman was listed as unlisted on the student-athlete availability report prior to A&M's game against Arkansas at 2:30 p.m. at AT&T Stadium in Arlington.

Weigman continues to suffer from an AC sprain in his throwing shoulder that he suffered in the season-opening loss to Notre Dame on August 31. He aggravated the injury on Sept. 12 before the Aggies' SEC opener at Florida. Weigman hasn't appeared in a game since a win over McNeese State on Sept. 7. He wore street clothes while warming up before Saturday's game.

Reed led A&M to victories in his first two career starts, beating the Gators 33-20 before a 26-20 win over Bowling Green last week at Kyle Field. This season he totaled 422 passing yards with four touchdowns and 217 rushing yards and a score.

Reed completed 16 of 29 passes against the Falcons for 173 yards and two touchdowns while collecting 91 yards on the ground.

It's the fourth straight season the Aggies have used a second-string quarterback against the Razorbacks. Zach Calzada was named in place of Haynes King in 2021, while Max Johnson started in place of King and Weigman in 2022 and 2023, respectively.

A&M has won 11 of the last 12 meetings with Arkansas, with the lone Razorback win coming in 2021. This year marks the final hosting of the Southwest Classic at AT&T Stadium before the rivalry moves to campus next season.
