Texas A&M 26-20 Bowling Green (September 21, 2024) Match Report

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — Marcel Reed threw for 173 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 91 yards as No. 25 Texas A&M defeated Bowling Green 26-20 on Saturday night.

Reed made his second college start in place of Conner Weigman, who was out with a shoulder injury.

Le'Veon Moss fumbled with about 90 seconds left and Bowling Green (1-2) cut the lead to six with a 23-yard field goal by Jackson Kleather with 38 seconds left. But the Aggies then recovered Bowling Green's onside kick to secure the win.

Bowling Green pulled within three points with a touchdown late in the third quarter before Randy Bond scored two field goals for Texas A&M (3-1) in the fourth quarter to extend the lead to 26-17.

Findings

Bowling Green: Despite losing by close margins both times, the Falcons have made life difficult for two highly ranked teams this season, losing 34-27 to then-No. 8 Penn State in their last game. Tight end Harold Fannin Jr. continues to shine early this season, and has 349 yards receiving yards in three games, after catching a 65-yard touchdown pass and 145 yards receiving yards on Saturday night.

Texas A&M: Reed, who made 16 of 29 shots, will need to be more accurate and the Aggies will need to find a way to limit big plays on defense if they want to stay on the winning track when they return to Southeastern Conference play next week.

Key moment

Bowling Green blocked a punt after Rahkeem Smith cut the lead to three with a 40-yard reverse touchdown. The Falcons got the ball on the A&M 8-yard line but couldn't move it before Kleather missed a 28-yard field goal that would have tied the score late in the third quarter.

Important statistics

The Aggies, who were ninth nationally in rushing yards per game before the game, averaged 235 rushing yards on Saturday night.
