Take to the streets? Here you can find out which highways in the Phoenix area are closed due to construction

PHOENIX (AZFamily) – If you're planning on hitting the road this weekend (October 19-20), beware of some major highway closures throughout the Phoenix area.

Loop 101 will be closed as construction projects continue. For those who want to drive into the high country to see the snow, I-17 will be narrowed to one lane north of the valley.

Here are the closures planned for October 18-21:

  • I-10 westbound will be closed between US 60 and the I-17 “Split” interchange near Sky Harbor Airport from 10 p.m. Friday to 4 a.m. Monday for work on the Broadway Curve Improvement Project.
  • I-17 southbound will be closed between Peoria Avenue and 7th Avenue from 9:00 p.m. Friday to 2:00 p.m. Saturday for road sealing.
  • I-17 northbound will be closed for road sealing between the I-10 “Split” interchange near Sky Harbor Airport and Peoria Avenue from 9:00 p.m. Saturday to 2:00 p.m. Sunday.
  • The 101 Agua Fria eastbound loop will be closed between 51st Avenue and 19th Avenue from 10:00 p.m. Friday to 5:00 a.m. Monday for the establishment of work zones and asphalt pavement removal.

What to Expect When Heading to the Highlands:

After the Arizona Snowbowl was covered in snow Friday morning, many families may want to hit the streets and take a look at the winter wonderland. According to Arizona Family Meteorologists, snow could continue through Saturday as a low pressure system is in place over Arizona.

Northbound motorists will only be allowed to drive in one lane if they plan to drive at night or in the early hours of the morning.

Heading back into the valley, I-17 will be southbound between State Route 74/Carefree Highway and Loop 303 from 9:00 p.m. Friday to 9:00 a.m. Saturday and from 9:00 p.m. Saturday to 9:00 a.m. Sunday narrowed to improve the road surface. In addition, the highway will also be restricted between 9 p.m. Sunday and 5 a.m. Monday.

Northbound I-17 will be narrowed between Happy Valley Road and Loop 303 on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 9:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

Ramps that will be closed:

  • I-10 westbound ramps at Elliot and Baseline streets
  • US 60 westbound ramps at McClintock Drive, Rural Road and Mill Avenue
  • I-10 leads south to I-17 at the Stack interchange
  • I-10 joins I-17 northbound at the Stack interchange
  • Eastbound Loop 101 on-ramps at 75th, 67th and 59th Avenues
  • Northbound Loop 101 ramps at Cactus Road and Raintree Drive
