The potential tropical cyclone was first addressed in a warning from the National Hurricane Center on Sunday at 4 p.m. The potential tropical cyclone is located 345 miles south of Kingston, Jamaica and 515 miles south-southeast of Grand Cayman, with maximum sustained winds of 35 miles per hour. It is moving northeast at 7 miles per hour. The potential tropical cyclone is expected to strengthen. Meteorologists announced a hurricane tropical storm warning for the Cayman Islands.

DANGERS AFFECTING LAND:

WIND: Hurricane conditions are possible in the Cayman Islands on Tuesday. Tropical storms are expected in Jamaica until late Monday.

RAINFALL: Heavy rainfall will impact areas of the western Caribbean, with the heaviest rainfall occurring over Jamaica and southern Cuba by midweek. Rainfall totals will be between 3 and 6 inches, with locally up to 9 inches expected. Flooding and possible mudslides could occur in parts of Jamaica and Cuba. Heavy rainfall will spread north into Florida and adjacent areas of the southeastern United States by mid to late week.

STORM STORM: Minor coastal flooding is possible in Jamaica on Monday and in the Cayman Islands on Tuesday.

SURF: Waves generated by the system are expected to impact much of the western Caribbean over the next few days.
