Many playoff losses are tough.

Some hurt more than others.

But for many Brewers fans, there will be no elixir that can cure these stabbing postseason pains.

Just two outs away from victory, thanks to back-to-back home runs by Jake Bauers and Sal Frelick in the seventh inning, the Brewers appeared to be headed to the National League Division series in Philadelphia.

Bauers destroyed a hanging 3-2 change from Jose Brito. Frelick ambushed a fastball on the next pitch.

True fan eruption.

It was party time.

But Mets first baseman Pete Alonso delivered the hardest blow to the Milwaukee Champagne celebrations early in the ninth inning. His three-run home run off Brewers closer Devin Williams shockingly put Milwaukee's postseason expectations on hold.

Williams had squandered the lead after two unlikely heroes seemingly extended this magical season. The Brewers were abruptly eliminated by the Mets.

A sombre Bob Uecker summed up the heartbreaking 4-2 loss best on the Brewers' radio broadcast.

Here is social media's reaction to the incredible turn of events in the Brewers' stunning and absolutely heartbreaking loss to the Mets:
