SJSU football goes 5-2 in home win over Wyoming

SAN JOSE – San Jose State escaped with its third conference win, 24-14, against Wyoming on Saturday at CEFCU Stadium.

SJSU (5-2, 3-1 MWC) quarterback Walker Eget made his first career start after sharing relief duties with quarterback Emmett Brown the past two weeks.

Eget finished the game 20-for-38 with 318 passing yards, one touchdown and two interceptions.

Brown saw the field late in the third quarter and had a pass for the completion. That drive fell apart after multiple penalties put the Spartans on a third-and-21.

The Spartans finished the season with a season-high 176 rushing yards.

SJSU avoided a disastrous first half after a blocked field goal, a fumble by Eget on a scramble, an interception by Eget and a muffed punt return by Matthew Coleman halted the Spartans' offense. At halftime, the Spartans were ahead 14-0.

Spartans running back Floyd Chalk IV scored with a 39-yard touchdown on the first drive to make it 7-0.

Wide receiver Nick Nash's 17-yard touchdown reception gave him seven consecutive games with a touchdown reception, a new SJSU record.

Eget's second interception came from pressure from Cowboys defensive end Sabastian Harsh, tipped by linebacker Connor Shay and grabbed by nickelback Wrook Brown.
