Shoe store looted in downtown LA during World Series celebration – NBC Los Angeles

A shoe store was looted and a Metro bus vandalized during a night of the Dodgers' World Series title celebration, which sparked riots in downtown Los Angeles and led to several arrests.

The video showed people rushing out of the shoe store with boxes of guns, fireworks thrown at police responding to the scene and a Metro bus covered in graffiti after the Dodgers' Game 5 victory over the Yankees in New York York.

Los Angeles police issued several eviction orders after some stores were looted.

“We know you want to celebrate the Dodgers World Series win, but please do not go to downtown LA,” the LAPD posted on social media. In downtown LA, many streets will be closed and traffic will be severely impacted. Please celebrate responsibly.

An area Footlocker store that sells Nike products was boarded up earlier this week in anticipation of a crush, but people broke through the plywood and windows. Several rushed out of the store with stacks of shoeboxes.

An evacuation order was issued at Ninth and Flower streets due to a large crowd gathering on the street. The windows of a building in downtown LA that houses the Brazilian steakhouse Fogo de Chao were covered in graffiti.

A bus was set on fire in Echo Park. The bus driver and the passenger were able to get off the bus before it was set on fire.

Twelve people were arrested in connection with the World Series celebrations, police said Thursday morning. They were arrested for failure to disperse, receiving stolen property and commercial burglary.

A Dodgers victory parade is planned for Friday in downtown Los Angeles.

The World Series title is the team's first full season in 36 years and caps a promising season with the addition of two-time MVP Shohei Ohtani to an already strong lineup alongside fellow MVPs Freddie Freeman and Mookie Beds.

The 2020 season was shortened by the pandemic and played under several major MLB changes, including neutral site bubbles and other safety precautions.

The triumph capped a series of Dodgers dominance. briefly interrupted by an offensive outburst from the Yankees in Game 4. After Freeman's dramatic extra-inning walk-off home run in the series opener and strong pitching performances from Yoshinobu Yamamoto and Walker Buehler in Games 2 and 3, Game 4 was the story on the LA side, but the Yankees rallied for an 11-4 victory.

An inning of mishits by the Yankees doomed New York's attempt at a historic comeback in Game 5.

All 24 previous teams that had gone 3-0 in the World Series had won the series. Teams with a 3-0 series lead have won the World Series in Game 4 21 times, with the three exceptions: the Baltimore Orioles in 1970 against the Cincinnati Reds; the Yankees against the New York Giants in 1937; and Philadelphia Athletics in 1910 against the Chicago Cubs.

Celebrations continued after Game 2 of the series. After Saturday's victory, deputies responded to an East Los Angeles neighborhood after reports of a street takeover and fireworks.

In a social media post over the weekend, the Los Angeles Sheriffs Department encouraged fans to cheer on the team and celebrate when they win. However, this post contained a warning about vandalism, unlawful assembly and public drunkenness.

“Unruly, unlawful behavior will not be tolerated,” the sheriff’s department said online. “This is a time of community pride and unity as we support our home team; however, it is important that this is done safely.”
