Shesterkin made 34 saves as the Rangers defeated the Maple Leafs and won for the third straight season

Matthews had a chance to equalize at 6:04, but Shesterkin kept the Rangers within 2-1 with a right-toe save.

The Rangers converted a two-minute minor penalty on Jacob Trouba for tripping at 12:25, making the score 2-1.

“The (boys) are going to be disappointed because we didn’t score,” Maple Leafs coach Craig Berube said. “Tonight there were some good chances for the power play, but we didn't do a very good job with our efforts in the third period and turned it over a few times. When the game is on the line and there is a chance to decide it, we need to show more urgency.”

Later, at 16:24, Shesterkin saved Nylander with a glove shot from the left faceoff dot, preserving the one-goal lead.

“I don’t know which one stood out the most, there were so many I lost count,” Smith said. “I feel like he’s already had a whole season full of highlights with four or five games this year. It’s pretty impressive what he’s capable of, but I think we can probably do a better job of helping him and not give up all those opportunities.”

Kreider scored into the empty net at 19:00 to make it 3-1, and Panarin scored into the empty net at 19:46 to make the final score 4-1. Panarin recorded six goals and six assists during his points streak.
