Severe storms moved across central Oklahoma late Saturday and Sunday morning, causing varying degrees of damage in parts of the Oklahoma City metropolitan area.

Due to flooding, northbound Interstate 35 was reduced to a single lane at Northeast 50th Street in Oklahoma City. Motorists in the area should seek an alternative route.

At least one home was damaged by a tornado southwest of Tinker Airforce Base.

Damage was reported at Southeast 81st and Sooner Road. Damaged or destroyed homes were also reported west of this area at Southeast 89th Street and South Bryant Avenue.

Oklahoma City police said there was damage to several buildings along Sooner Road between Southeast 82nd Street and Southeast 86th Street. The road in the area was previously closed due to fallen trees and power lines.

Aaron Martines, who lives in the area near Southeast 89th and Sooner Road, said homes in his neighborhood were damaged by the storms.

“Incredible, it actually looked like an apocalypse,” Martinez said. “The house behind my house was in pieces. The pillar that supported one of my neighbors was completely gone. Both garages were broken into.”

Martinez also said that everything happened very quickly.

“Very quickly, there was no alarm, nothing,” Martinez said.

Across the city, “multiple” buildings were damaged and five people were transported to local hospitals, although none suffered life-threatening injuries, according to Oklahoma City police.

OCPD also said several power lines, trees, gas lines and traffic signals and signs were damaged by the storms.

There are also reports of damage from Valley Brook, southeast of the Oklahoma City metro. Authorities are responding to reports of residents trapped in their vehicles.

Strong winds also damaged parts of Newcastle Elementary School, located near West Fox Lane and Main Street.

Damage was reported in the Horshoe Lake area near Luther and in Blanchard, but the exact location is not yet known.

News 9 viewers in the eastern part of the metro reported damage in Harrah near Southeast 219th Street and Triple X Road and in Choctaw near Peeble Road and East Reno Avenue.
