Sandra Douglass Morgan and Kristi Coleman make history as two female NFL presidents

Sunday's clash between the Raiders and Panthers was the first game in NFL history between two teams with female presidents.

Sandra Douglass Morgan and Kristi Coleman met before the game to commemorate the historic moment with an exchange of game balls.

“Kristi has been a great colleague and friend, and being able to share this moment with her makes it all the more special,” Douglass Morgan said. “Even though we're here to win the game and do what we do and do our jobs every day, it's monumental that we have two female presidents at the helm. It's great to be able to celebrate each other before the game.”

Both women were hired by their respective teams in 2022 – Douglass Morgan was named president of the Raiders in July 2022, while Coleman was named president of the Panthers in February 2022. They have gotten to know each other well in their roles over the course of the two seasons, and Douglass Morgan even attended the Panthers' International Women's Day celebration alongside Coleman in 2023.

“You feel a little more comfortable when you have someone you can call,” Coleman said of the Panthers. “Charlotte and Vegas are obviously two very different markets, but the role and what you have to do is no different. A lot of the things we do and the nuances we experience are the same.”

According to the Institute for Diversity and Ethics in Sport, the proportion of women in professional staff positions at the team level was 36.3% in 2023, above an all-time high – a number that Douglass Morgan and Coleman hope will continue to rise.

“We've both been pretty open about the fact that sometimes you have to see it to be it,” Douglass Morgan said. “If anybody, any young woman, any young boy, anybody sees us and says, 'OK, I can do this. I can lead a team,' I think that's an incredible thing and I'm proud to share that moment with her.”
