Sabrina Carpenter brought her charm to Vancouver's Pacific Coliseum last night (November 4) with her Short n' Sweet Tour, which proved to be a cheeky spectacle full of retro glamor and clever double entenders.

The show was an invitation into Carpenter's playhouse of fantasy and flirtation – from large hair and feather boas to heart-shaped furniture and sparkly two-piece suits, Carpenter, at just 5ft 7in, looked almost like a life-sized Polly Pocket in her dream home. But her small stature didn't stop her from being an arena-dominating powerhouse. This wasn't just a performance; She didn't work long hours because she is a singer. She clearly lived every second on that stage.

The show began with Carpenter arriving “fashionably late” and running onto the stage wrapped only in a towel. Raising the tension, she dropped the towel and revealed a rhinestone-encrusted navy blue corset bodysuit. Was it a reference to the Canucks? We like to think so. Featuring heart-shaped conversation pits and a cheeky title Sabrina after dark Background (your variant Playboy after dark), it felt like we had wandered into a dreamscape where camp and glamor reigned supreme.

The crowd could barely catch their breath as she switched gears, reclined on a round bed and upped the ante with “Bed Chem” while an overhead camera recorded her every move. Racy? Absolutely.

Then came her bombshell moment in a lace catsuit, a la Marilyn Monroe. She draped herself over a retro-style bathroom, complete with a heart-shaped toilet and a heart-shaped mirror (that doubled as a camera), and belted out her ballads “Opposite” and “Sharpest Tool.” She also treated the audience to “Busy Woman,” a bonus track that didn’t make it into the final cut of hers Short and sweet Album.

And of course, she added a few shout-outs from her hometown, like “Robson Street” and “Squamish,” where she filmed as a teenager. In true Carpenter fashion, she also included a joke about the rain: “I can’t believe how much it rains in Vancouver. I swear the only thing wetter than Vancouver is my…” She left the rest to the audience’s imagination and launched straight into her next song with a grin.

In the third act she had slipped into a red, sparkly two-piece suit with a maxi skirt, which turned into a miniskirt. Maybe it was a little nod to our country in honor of their last tour stop in Canada. And while she didn't give us a Canucks jersey — yes, we noticed the absence, especially since she wore a Maple Leafs jersey in Toronto — we'll forgive her. Why? Because their opener, Declan McKenna, scored big by rocking a Whitecaps jersey. Consider the bill settled.

Amid all the online speculation that she wouldn't be performing live, Carpenter silenced the critics by ditching the backing track and leaving all the sassy ad-libs and sensual belting to stand alone. For her hit song “Juno,” she made full use of her heart-shaped platform, which she raised to command the room.

Carpenter's mark? Outrageously camping, endlessly flirting and a bit horny.
