God of War Ragnarok's PSN requirement on PC wasn't a problem thanks to a mod, except that mod has now been removed for fear of legal action.

When God of War Ragnarok finally released on PC this month, there was a small catch: you had to connect your PSN account to play it. Naturally, this caused the game's review to become slightly muddled, although there was no sign of PlayStation changing its mind on the matter. Then along came a modder who created a mod that easily allowed you to bypass the PSN login error, although it didn't always seem to work. This mod has always been a bit risky, and now the modder has decided to delete the mod completely, for understandable reasons, fearing that Sony might take legal action.

“Hello, that was my personal decision because the mod got too much attention,” the modder wrote in a statement (via VGC). “I thought it would be better to remove it from public view to prevent potential threats from Sony, even though the project never modified storage related to Sony products, but it's better to be safe than sorry.” It's important to Note that the modder is not claiming that Sony has taken any legal action regarding the mod, but rather that he is doing so as a precautionary measure in case Sony takes any action.

This PSN requirement from Sony has been somewhat controversial overall for this year's PC releases. The biggest incident was Helldivers 2, which suffered from heavy review bombardment when it was announced that it would require you to log into a PSN account, months after release. This was so poorly received that Sony reversed the decision, but I don't think that will be the case with all future releases.
