Presidents Cup 2024: Fourball games on day one at Royal Montreal

Presidents Cup 2024: Fourball games on day one at Royal Montreal

International captain Mike Weir and U.S. captain Jim Furyk announced the Fourballs' Day 1 matchups at the Presidents Cup on Wednesday.

Here's a quick look at who will play who on Thursday at the Royal Montreal Golf Club in Montreal, Canada (all times ET). Golf Channel coverage begins at 11:30 a.m. ET

  • 11:35 a.m.: Jason Day/Byeong Hun An (INT) vs. Xander Schauffele/Tony Finau (USA)
  • 11:53 a.m.: Adam Scott/Min Woo Lee (INT) vs. Collin Morikawa/Sahith Theegala (USA)
  • 12:11 p.m.: Sungjae Im/Tom Kim (INT) vs. Scottie Scheffler/Russell Henley (USA)
  • 12:29 p.m.: Taylor Pendrith/Christiaan Bezuidenhout (INT) vs. Wyndham Clark/Keegan Bradley (USA)
  • 12:47 p.m.: Hideki Matsuyama/Corey Conners (INT) vs. Patrick Cantlay/Sam Burns (USA)

What's notable is that neither team from either side has ever played together in the Presidents Cup or (for the Americans) the Ryder Cup.

Two players will sit for both sides: Max Homa and Brian Harman for the USA; Mackenzie Hughes and Si Woo Kim for the Internationals.

Unlike the Ryder Cup, which uses a blind draw to determine the lineup, the Presidents Cup uses a “snake” format.

As captain of the defending champions, Furyk pushed the game back and allowed Weir to announce his match 1 pairing first. Weir chose Australia's Day and the South Koreans An and Furyk countered with Schauffele and Finau.

Furyk then went first into Match 2, followed by Weir and then first into Match 3 and so on.

Following Thursday's game, the teams will compete in five foursomes (alternative shot) matches on Friday and four foursomes and four foursomes in a double session on Saturday. Twelve individual games will take place on Sunday. The first team to reach 15 1/2 points wins the competition. In the event of a 15:15 draw, the teams share the trophy.
