The return of Byrum Brown will give South Florida a boost on offense and the Owls will score plenty of points on their own. Everywhere!

Get ready for an outstanding AAC showdown when the South Florida Bulls face the Florida Atlantic Owls tonight.

Both offenses feature dual-threat quarterbacks, and my South Florida vs. Florida Atlantic predictions have the offenses being the main attraction. Read on as I explain why I like the over in my college football picks for Friday, November 1st.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET at FAU Stadium in Boca Raton, with the game broadcast on ESPN2.

My analysis
The South Florida Bulls offense struggled without starting QB Byrum Brown under center, scoring just 38 points in his 2.5 game absence.

The good news for the Bulls? Brown is facing a return to the starting lineup, which is bad news for the Florida Atlantic Owls defense that allows 28 points a night.

Brown has thrown for 836 yards on two receptions, but he also puts in work on the ground. The junior quarterback has racked up another 269 yards and three touchdowns on offense that is likely above his 25 points per game.

The Bulls O-Unit should get us halfway there, and the Owls offense will do the rest.

Florida Atlantic is beginning to find its offensive identity – rushing the football – and has posted more than 500 rushing yards in consecutive games.

The Owls have the fifth-best rushing offense in the AAC. Junior QB Cam Fancher is a capable dual-threat signal-caller with 1,154 passing yards and 344 rushing yards, and FAU also has two RBs with over 350 rushing yards and four receivers with over 100 receiving yards.

They face a South Florida defense incapable of stopping a broken clock and a defense that has given up more than 45 points in two of its last four games.

Crimes will rule the day as they exceed the total of 49.5.

CJ Campbell Jr. at any time for a touchdown

I expect both offenses to roar, but the Owls will get the last shout.

South Florida RB CJ Campbell has reached the end zone in four of his last five games. He is the Bulls' leading rusher and a capable receiver with 17 catches for 175 yards. Florida Atlantic has given up a dozen rushing touchdowns and I expect Campbell to find the end zone at least once.

Florida Atlantic is a short-home underdog, but the offense is starting to come together. The Bulls' defense has some flaws and I expect the Owls to throw the ball more often and be successful enough to outscore South Florida.

  • The overall score started at 53.5 (-110), but has fallen to a consensus of 49.5 (-110). The likely culprit is that both quarterbacks are on the injured list, but Brown and Fancher are listed as starters in the game notes issued by their respective teams.
