There shouldn't have been a moment of indecision for Todd Bowles after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers scored in the final minute of regulation on Monday night.

No one has been able to beat the Kansas City Chiefs since last December. When you have a single play from two yards out to knock off back-to-back Super Bowl champions, like the Buccaneers did when they scored with 27 seconds left on Monday night, that's when you hit your shot.

Not Bowles. Instead of going for the 2-point conversion and the win as a big underdog, the Buccaneers head coach opted for an extra point to force overtime. Everyone knew this could backfire, and it did.

The Chiefs won the coin toss in overtime and there wasn't much of a surprise about what happened next. Patrick Mahomes drove the Chiefs right down the field, as he has so often done in difficult situations. And Kareem Hunt scored a 2-yard touchdown to end the game, keeping the Chiefs undefeated with a 30-24 win.

The Chiefs didn't play particularly well on Monday night. They were expected to easily beat the Buccaneers, who came into the game 4-4. But it was a fight. They were on the ropes, but Bowles decided against the knockout blow when he had the chance. There's a reason the Chiefs are 8-0. Perhaps Bowles wasn't aware of the Chiefs' history when he decided to kick the extra point.

The Buccaneers started off pretty well. The defense did a good job containing the Chiefs' offense, even if Xavier Worthy was unable to get the ball to the perimeter, which would have been a long catch to about the 1-yard line, which helped their cause came. Rachaad White scored the first touchdown of the game to give Tampa Bay an early 7-3 lead.

The Chiefs then warmed up. Mahomes hit Hopkins with a ridiculous throw into traffic downfield for a 35-yard gain, which set up a 1-yard touchdown pass to Hopkins.

Afterwards, Hopkins celebrated “Remember the Titans” and showed off his sense of humor that comes with his red zone skills. The Chiefs led 10-7 at halftime. Everyone saw this game during the Mahomes era. Eventually the Chiefs take over and win.

But the Buccaneers weren't discouraged. Mayfield continued to beat tight end Cade Otton, who is virtually Tampa Bay's only reliable receiver due to injuries to Mike Evans and Chris Godwin. Otton scored a touchdown to give the Buccaneers the lead. A field goal later in the third quarter gave the Buccaneers a 17-10 lead. The Chiefs faced a challenge.

The Chiefs are expected to beat most teams, especially at home, and they were heavy favorites to beat the Buccaneers. But Kansas City looked a little bleak Monday night. The Chiefs' offense, which seemed to be going well in the second quarter, disappeared for most of the third quarter. And Tampa Bay clearly wasn't intimidated.

But it's the Chiefs. They usually find a way.

The Chiefs got back into the game on the ground. When it began to rain, the Chiefs continued to feed Hunt. His hard run led to a game-winning touchdown for the Chiefs, but it came with a scare. Mahomes threw a touchdown pass to Samaje Perine, but took an awkward step and had to be helped out. But Mahomes was observed by trainers and jogged on the sidelines before Kansas City's next series.

The Buccaneers had a quick three-pointer and that was the opening the Chiefs needed. Kansas City, with Mahomes running around like nothing happened, managed another long drive in the rain. Hopkins scored his second touchdown of the game to give the Chiefs a 24-17 lead with 4:17 left. Hopkins will be a valuable weapon for them near the goal line.

The Chiefs defense has been fantastic all season, and on the Buccaneers' next drive, Kansas City got a key sack. The Buccaneers elected to punt on fourth-and-16 and it appeared the game was over. However, the Buccaneers got a stop to get the ball back with a punt. Normally the Chiefs would never give the ball back at this point, but it wasn't a standout performance Thursday night.

The Buccaneers drove into Chiefs territory needing a touchdown. Mayfield continued to complete passes in the rain, moving Tampa Bay downfield. Mayfield hit Trey Palmer for a pass on a cross route that took them to the 1-yard line with 33 seconds left. Then Mayfield hit Ryan Miller for a touchdown. The Buccaneers could have gone for the 2-point conversion and the lead, which seemed prudent as big underdogs at Arrowhead Stadium, but Bowles went for the extra point and the tie. The Buccaneers got a stop to force a punt and the game went into overtime.

The Chiefs didn't win in regulation despite having three timeouts, but they immediately moved into Buccaneers territory after winning the coin toss in overtime. Mahomes calmly got the Chiefs into the red zone on their first drive. He kept beating Travis Kelce for wins. From the 2-yard line, Hunt found the end zone for the walk-off score.

    Patrick Mahomes was not hit on the play in which he apparently injured his ankle.

    His hip and knee also looked like they were locked up on this play. Mahomes is now in the medical tent.

    However, Mahomes appears to have injured his ankle while making the throw. He is now being checked on the Chiefs sideline.
