Paolo Berlusconi confirms Monza only paid a “small fee” to Milan for Maldini

In an interview before the game between AC Milan and Monza, Paolo Berlusconi confirmed that Daniel Maldini had left the Rossoneri in the summer for a “small transfer fee”.

After success with Monza in the 2023/24 season, Maldini moved to them halfway through the season and attracted interest from a few clubs in the summer, but ultimately stayed at Monza. It was a pretty advantageous deal for the latter, even if it included a 50 percent resale clause.

In his interview with Gazzetta dello SportSilvio Berlusconi's brother Paolo was asked if he wanted to keep the Maldini name alive. He made it clear that Milan's willingness to negotiate was “an act of generosity” as Monza only had to pay a small fee.

Berlusconi, Galliani: Maldini's name almost comes naturally…

“It is very nice that we started with Milan and arrived in Monza, also thanks to the savoir-faire of Paolo Scaroni and Milan, who released Daniel Maldini for a small fee. An act of generosity, beautiful to see.”

Of course, the 50 percent resale clause means Milan can buy back Maldini at a much lower price than his competitors. And if they don't want to, they can still give away a decent portion of it. Of course, it shouldn't become a habit for management to sell exclusively with future resale clauses.
