Olivia Nuzzi and New York Magazine part ways after her relationship with RFK Jr

New York Magazine announced Monday that it is parting ways with star political reporter Olivia Nuzzi, whose previously undisclosed personal relationship with Robert F. Kennedy Jr. led to an investigation into her work during the 2024 campaign.

That investigation, conducted by law firm Davis Wright Tremaine, “came to the same conclusion as the magazine's first internal review of its published work and found no inaccuracies or evidence of bias,” New York Magazine said in a statement on its website.

The magazine said the two parties had agreed to part ways, adding: “Nuzzi is a uniquely talented writer and we have been proud to publish her work over her nearly eight years as our Washington correspondent.”

In a statement to Vanity Fair, Nuzzi's attorney, Ari Wilkenfeld, wrote that the journalist is “pleased, but not surprised, that two separate investigations have found that her reporting on the 2024 campaign was substantiated and that she did nothing wrong.”

Nuzzi was placed on leave last month after admitting he had a “personal relationship” with Kennedy. At the time, the star reporter wrote in a statement to The New York Times that “some communications between me and a former reporting subject became a personal matter.”

She added: “The relationship was never physical but should have been disclosed to prevent the appearance of conflict.” Nuzzi said she had raised the issue before but had not spoken about him directly during their relationship.

Meanwhile, Kennedy's spokesman wrote that the former presidential candidate “only met Olivia Nuzzi once in his life for an interview she requested, which led to a hit song.”

Nuzzi wrote a profile of Kennedy in November 2023 with the headline: “The stunning politics of RFK Jr.'s spoiler campaign.” The subheading read: “He's a conservative. He is a liberal. And he could turn the presidential race on its head.”

Kennedy dropped out of the race in late August and endorsed Donald Trump. He is the son of the late Attorney General Robert F. Kennedy and is married to “Curb Your Enthusiasm” star Cheryl Hines.
