'No evidence' found of Ware County High School shooting after shots fired, police say

WAYCROSS, Ga. (WALB) – Ware County High School in Waycross was placed on lockdown today after reports of shots fired at the school.

According to a Facebook post from the Ware County Sheriff's Office, no shots were fired on school property and no one was injured. School Superintendent Bert Smith said in a Facebook post:

“This afternoon, Ware County High School went into a full lockdown following a report of a gunshot on campus. Police responded immediately and after a thorough search, we can confirm that our campus has been cleared and there is NO EVIDENCE that a shooting occurred. We know rumors are circulating, but I want to make it clear again that there were NO INJURIES OR DEATHS related to this incident.”

At this time, the campus is evacuated and the school system is working to release the students. Law enforcement is investigating.

The school is offering additional counseling for students in need this week.
